Koh Chang is in the Gulf of Thailand, and it is one of the largest islands. The island is equipped with dense and steep jungle, a national park (Mu Ko) and party beaches which is an attraction for tourists. In this article, we will be discussing different ways to transfer from Bangkok to Koh Chang.

Via Air

Koh Chang is an hour’s flight away from the Suvarnabhumi Airport of Bangkok. Three flights operate on a daily basis with flights departing at 08:30, 11:40 and 17:05. You can easily book the tickets for these flights online. The flight lands on the Trat Airport, and from there you can get into a minibus to travel to your place of stay on the island.

The airport is at a 30 minutes distance from the ferry terminals. The one-way journey will cost you 500 Baht including the ferry ride, whereas a return ticket will cost around 900 Baht.

Via Car or Minibus

During the season, when the airfares can rise as much as 3500 Baht, another economical way of traveling from Koh Chang to Bangkok is via car or a minibus. You can book your car online, and you will be picked up either from your hotel or a pick-up point as mutually agreed with you.

Apart from cars, shared minivans are also available to be booked, which is a much more economical option since the total fare is shared among the passengers.

Via Bus

The most popular way of traveling from Bangkok to Koh Chang is via #999 bus which can be boarded from Ekamai (Eastern) Bus Terminal and will drop you off at Laem Ngop.

Fromm there, you can catch a ferry to Koh Chang. It is an economical option with a travel time of approximately 5-6 hours depending on the traffic. The timings for the departure of the bus is 07:45 and 09:45.

If the timings of #999 bus don’t suit you, you can catch #9908 bus from the same terminal as well as the Northern Bus Terminal (Moh Chit).

Apart from these two buses, you can either have yourself transported to Koh Chang via night bus of Cherdchai Private Bus company with premium services or by taking the VIP bus that runs from Khao San Road to Center Point pier in Laem Ngop.

Via Ferry

There are two ferry terminals at Laem Ngop, and they carry both, vehicles as well as passengers. The ferry operates every 45 minutes in between the timings of 06:30 to 19:30 from the first terminal which is situated at Ao Thammachat Pier, operated by Ferry Koh Chang.

The second pier is Centerpoint Pier operated by Centerpoint Ferry company where the ferry operates every hour between the timings of 06:30 to 19:30. Ferry Koh Chang charges 80 Baht for passengers and 120 Baht for Vehicles, whereas Centerpoint Ferry Company charges 80 Baht for passenger and allows the vehicles free of charge. Ao Thammachat pier is much better as compared to Centerpoint pier.
